Top 5 Engineering Entrance Exams Apart from JEE Main

Joint Entrance Examination is the mostpremier engineering entrance test in India. An estimated figure of nearly 12 lakh candidates appeared in the JEE Main in 2018 itself. Students who qualify JEE Main can seek admission at any one of the 31 National Institute of Technology (NITs), 23 Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) and several other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTI).

Given the level of competition, it is evident that not all candidates qualify the test. There are several other notable engineering entrance exams conducted by universities or private institutions as well as common entrance tests held at the state level. SRMJEEE, VITEEE, BITSAT etc. are few of them. The table below lists the 5 most sought after Engineering Entrance Exams in India that aspirants can try their hands at.

The test is conducted annually, at the national level, in an online mode. Applicants are required to have at least 80% aggregate score in their 12th Board Exam with not less than 60% each in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. An estimated 2 lakh candidates appear for BITSAT every year to make a grab at 2000 seats across the 3 campuses. The range of cut-off scores across engineering disciplines and campuses in 2018 were marked at a high for BE Computer Science-378 and lowest for BE Chemical-257 out of a total score of 400.

National Aptitude Test in Architecture

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), is conducted annually at the national level by the Council of Architecture (COA) for candidates interested to pursue a career in Architecture. NATA is a paper-based test that evaluates the candidates’ mathematical skills, general aptitude, drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability. Candidates who have studied mathematics as a subject in their higher secondary level are eligible to apply for NATA. As a part of the test, candidates will be asked to submit two drawings to assess their drawing skills.
